RagaMuffin: cat food and breed portrait
The RagaMuffin is a large cat with a half-long coat. The RagaMuffin comes from the USA. She has the same origins as the Ragdoll and looks similar to it. Thanks to her gentle and social nature, the RagaMuffin is an excellent family cat.
History of the RagaMuffin
The RagaMuffin is a descendant of the Ragdoll. The latter was developed by Ann Baker, who also secured the rights to the name of the breed and not only imposed strict conditions on other breeders, but also raised royalties for breeding the Ragdoll.
For this reason, some breeders separated from Ann Baker in the 1990s and from then on took care of the development of the RagaMuffin as an independent breed. The recognition by the CFA finally followed in 2003.
In the meantime the RagaMuffin has developed into a very popular cat breed. But it still cannot keep up with the enormous popularity of the Ragdoll.
Look of the RagaMuffin
The RagaMuffin is one of the giants among the domestic cats. With a length of up to 120 centimetres, males can reach a weight of up to 10 kilograms. Female RagaMuffins weigh between 4.5 and 7 kilograms.
The RagaMuffin has a muscular body with broad shoulders and a broad chest. She has medium-long, strong legs and large, round paws. The head of the RagaMuffin is large. Her chin and muzzle are round. Her large eyes may have all colours and should be as intense and expressive as possible.
The coat of the RagaMuffin
The dense coat of the RagaMuffin is medium to long. It has a silky texture and forms a ruff. The breed standard allows all colours and does not make any specifications regarding the pattern or the amount of white.
Accordingly, the RagaMuffin can have the following colours:
- Chocolate
- Seal
- Lilac
- Blue
- Mink
- Black
- Sable
- Silver
- Red
- Smoke
- Shaded
- Cream
- Cameo
Character of the RagaMuffin
The RagaMuffin is a very affectionate cat with a very humane character. She loves to spend time with her human roommates and does not appreciate being left alone for a long time.
All in all RagaMuffin is one of the more comfortable cats. She does not have an overly strong urge to move.
The RagaMuffin always observes her surroundings carefully. It is intelligent and practically always ready for a game together. The social RagaMuffin usually gets along just as well with other pets as with children living in the household.
Keeping and caring for the RagaMuffin
The RagaMuffin is a large and heavy cat breed. This circumstance should be taken into account when purchasing accessories like a scratching post. Especially for working owners, it is also useful to buy a second cat, so that the RagaMuffin does not have to stay alone all day.
Regardless of this, the RagaMuffin feels quite comfortable as a pure indoor cat. As long as she receives enough attention and has enough job opportunities, she does not need to be left alone. Nevertheless, the RagaMuffin is of course happy if she has the possibility to spend some time in the fresh air in a garden or on a cat-safe balcony.
The fur of the long-haired animals should be brushed regularly to avoid knots and remove loose hair. This is especially true if the cat is changing coat and is losing a lot of hair. The coat care is indeed connected with a little time expenditure. But it also helps to strengthen the bond between the RagaMuffin and its owner.
RagaMuffin diseases
In general, the RagaMuffin is considered to be a robust cat breed, which is not at too high a risk for diseases. Nevertheless, there are some diseases that can occur more often in this breed. These include in particular hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).
Apart from this, RagaMuffin occasionally has problems with the sensitive cat's eyes. In addition, inbreeding is sometimes a problem that is associated with corresponding health consequences for affected animals and can lead, among other things, to a weakness of the immune system and a correspondingly increased susceptibility to disease.
The life expectancy of the RagaMuffin
The life expectancy of the RagaMuffin is normally well over 12 years. Some of the robust quadrupeds even reach an age of up to 20 years. However, inbreeding and related health problems can significantly reduce the life expectancy of the RagaMuffin. This also applies to poor keeping conditions and permanently inferior feeding which does not meet the needs of the cat.
The right food for the RagaMuffin
When feeding the RagaMuffin it is important to choose the right amount of food for the cat and to provide the quadruped with a high quality food with a high content of animal proteins. In addition, the RagaMuffin diet should not contain any unsuitable ingredients, such as cereals, to avoid health problems.
