Insect protein? But my cat needs real meat
Cats are known to be carnivores. Their digestion is therefore specialised in utilising animal proteins and fats. If these are not contained in sufficient quantities in the food, this has fatal consequences for the health of a cat.
Many a cat owner is therefore concerned about whether he is making a good choice with our cat food with insect protein and whether this unusual source of protein is really suitable for a species-appropriate diet.
Why doubts in this respect are unfounded and what advantages insect protein can offer is explained below.
Our answers to the most frequently asked questions
The doubts and questions about insect protein are quite similar for most cat owners. For this reason, we have decided to summarize the most important points in a separate article.
Does my cat not need real meat?
All foods contain a certain amount of different nutrients. In addition to so-called micronutrients in the form of minerals and vitamins, these include the macronutrients fats, carbohydrates and proteins. The meat in cat food provides your cat with fats and proteins. Since both are also contained in insects in comparable quality, there is no need for real meat in the food.
Does my cat need additional food with meat?
Our cat food with insects contains the right amount of protein to meet your cat's needs. This applies to both our wet food and our insect-based dry food. Supplementary feeding with a cat food containing meat is therefore not necessary.
Will the food meet my cat's needs?
It is our goal to provide you with products for a healthy and species-appropriate nutrition of your cat. For this reason, we work closely with a team of experts consisting of veterinarians and nutritionists during product development. So you can be sure that your pet is provided with all the important nutrients in the right amount by our insect-based cat food.
Do the insects receive antibiotics or medication?
In contrast to classical livestock breeding, no antibiotics or medication is necessary when breeding the larvae of Hermetia illucens (black soldier fly), which we use as a protein source for our cat food. Therefore there can be no residues of corresponding preparations in the finished feed.
Are pesticides used in insect breeding?
Pesticides are unnecessary in insect breeding, just like medicines. You can therefore be sure that our unusual protein supplier is a completely natural raw material.
Insect protein is easy on your cat's kidneys
Older cats very often develop chronic kidney failure. This means that the normal functioning of their kidneys is increasingly restricted.
Since the digestion of insect protein produces comparatively few metabolic waste products thanks to its high biological value, our insect-based cat food is ideal for cats with kidney problems.
In addition, the low pH value and the needs-based content of magnesium and other minerals counteract the formation of struvite stones.
Insect-based food supplements and care products
The larvae of Hermetia illucens are not only suitable as a protein supplier in cat food. They are also an excellent ingredient in food supplements and care products for cats.
For example, we use insect protein as a source of valuable amino acids for I love My Cat Immun, while our anal gland ointment for cats contains insect fat as a particularly high-quality ingredient for skin care.
Our conclusion on insect protein instead of meat
Of course, we know that cats are carnivores. For this reason, we would never come up with the idea of developing a vegan cat food. Nevertheless, insects are a very good alternative to meat.
In terms of amino acid profile and digestibility, our insect protein can easily compete with conventional protein sources such as salmon or chicken. In addition, its virtually non-existent allergenic potential makes our insect-based cat food the ideal alternative for cats with food allergies.
We can therefore assure you that your four-legged friend will be optimally provided for, despite the ingredient that may take some getting used to, and that feeding exclusively with our insect-based cat food will not be a problem in the long term.
