Sustainable and regional dog food from Bellfor
Nowadays there are hardly any products that are not transported around the globe. Food for people and animals has long had to travel great distances before it reaches the shelves of the shops.
For our dog food, however, we have deliberately chosen a different route. Why this has many advantages for your dog, you can find out in the following.
Long transport distances are the rule
Whether tomatoes from Spain, bananas from South America or lamb from far away New Zealand; the times when our food came from the immediate vicinity are long gone.
In some cases, the goods are even sent on the journey twice, as can be seen with North Sea crabs, for example. These are, as their name suggests, caught in the North Sea. However, they are not processed directly afterwards but instead are usually loaded onto trucks and transported to Morocco.
There they are plucked from their shells and then shipped back to Germany. Due to the low wages in Morocco, the long transport journey is worthwhile and the end product can be offered cheaper in the shop despite high transport costs.
Why we prefer regional products
In view of the costs, the described procedure may certainly be worthwhile. However, long transport routes are almost inevitably at the expense of product quality and also represent an enormous burden on our environment.
At Bellfor we, therefore, believe that regional ingredients are clearly the better choice for our feed and we always work with suppliers from our region whenever possible. This pays off in terms of both quality and the environment.
High product quality thanks to short transport routes
Short transport distances make it possible, among other things, for vegetables and fruit to ripen longer before harvesting. This ensures that they contain more valuable ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, flavonoids and antioxidants.
In addition, meat does not have to be transported thousands of kilometres to us and can therefore be processed fresher. Regional raw materials thus enable us to produce particularly high-quality dog food with an optimum content of important micronutrients.
For your dog, this naturally pays off with a particularly good digestibility of the dog food.
Less environmental pollution thanks to suppliers from the region
The longer the transport routes, the more fossil fuels are consumed and the more pollutants and CO2 are inevitably produced. A high volume of traffic therefore not only harms the climate but also represents a health hazard for us humans.
By mainly using regional raw materials, we ensure short transport routes and can thus make an important contribution to relieving our environment.
Sustainable packaging
Our efforts to achieve greater sustainability are not limited to the ingredients used in our dog food. We also make sure that our packaging is made of the most sustainable materials possible.
Instead of bags made of plastic or aluminium, as is common from many other dog food manufacturers, we use special fabric bags for our dog food. These enable us to pack your dog's food hygienically and protect it reliably from external influences. Apart from that, the food bags are characterised by a high tear resistance and can be easily recycled after the food has been consumed.
