Bach Flowers for Cats - Useful or Not?
Bach Flowers for Cats - Useful or Not?
Cats owners are very concerned about the wellbeing of their cat friend. This can be seen not only in the increased sales of high quality cat food, but also in a growing interest in natural medicine methods for treating cat diseases.
What exactly is Back Flowers about? Will it be suitable for your cat?
What are Bach Flowers anyway?
Bach Flowers, or Bach Flower Therapy, owes its name to the British doctor Edward Bach. He developed the concept in the 1930s. It consists of a total of 38 essences (37 flower extracts and pure rock spring water).
His idea was that not only the symptoms of an illness but also the mind of the patient should be treated. To this end, Edward Bach selected various plants and assigned them to different states of mind.
In order to produce essences from these so-called Bach flower essences, the corresponding plant parts are usually placed in spring water and boiled or left in the sun for several hours.
For adults, the water enriched in this way is mixed with brandy. For children or cats, however, Bach Flower Remedies are also available in alcohol-free versions.
Treating cats with Bach Flowers
To treat cats with Bach Flowers, the flower essences are either dripped into the mouth of the four-legged friend or over the food. The dose depends on the age of the animal. Adult cats receive four drops four times a day, kittens two to three drops each and cat puppies one to two drops each.
Treatment with Bach Flowers is recommended over a longer period of time. It should not be discontinued even if the symptoms have already improved.
For emergencies, such as injuries or allergic reactions, there is also a special mixture. These so-called rescue drops should be administered to the cat approximately every 10 to 15 minutes if necessary.
Effect of Bach Flowers for cats
If you choose Bach Flowers for your cat, you have the choice between different flower essences. Which of these is the right one is up to your own judgement, or the advice of an expert.
It is recommended that several flower essences are mixed together for optimum effect. However, you should never combine more than five different Bach Flower remedies.
Depending on which Bach Flower remedies you choose for your cat, the intake should then help against stress, restlessness or aggressiveness. In addition, the administration of Bach Flower remedies is also possible, for example, for nervous and anxious cats or in the case of listlessness.
Effectiveness of Bach Flowers for cats
As good as it may sound to improve the state of mind and thus the health of cats with the help of Bach Flowers, the effectiveness of this form of alternative medicine cannot be proven at the same time.
Various clinical studies have so far shown that the effect of Bach Flowers in humans does not go beyond a placebo effect. It is therefore more than questionable whether cats can benefit in any way from Bach Flowers.
The treatment of diseases is a matter for the veterinary surgeon
Even if Bach Flowers for cats are basically only intended as an accompanying treatment measure, there is a not inconsiderable risk that one or the other cat owner feels safe and refrains from visiting the vet with his cat.
However, this can turn out to be a fatal mistake. Because a therapy with Bach Flowers is not a substitute for possibly necessary medication, even for cats. Should your cat show symptoms of an illness, we therefore recommend that you consult a veterinarian.

Thanks to its special composition, Shiimun Calm can help to calm your cat in stressful situations in a digestible way and effectively increase the well-being of the four-legged friend.
Bach Flowers for cats - our conclusion
We prefer using natural active ingredients whenever possible. In most cases, however, the supplements and medications do not replace a visit to the vet.
The effectiveness of Bach Flowers for cats has not yet been proven by scientific studies. The essences are very strongly diluted and therefore contain practically no plant components. Bach Flowers therapies won’t put your cat’s life in danger and doesn’t pose any risks.
